Accommodations | Stay at Quaint Guest House “Village Kiramachi” in Kyoto

Have you ever heard “Machiya (町家)” in Kyoto?

Machiya are old houses that were mainly inhabited by people engaged in commerce and manufacturing. In those days, the houses were lined up closely together. There are still many of them left in Kyoto. Nowadays, old machiya are being renovated and used as restaurants and guest houses.

Village Kiramachi

Village Kiramachi is also an accommodation that was renovated from Machiya built over 100 years ago. After passing through the entrance, you will see a row of Machiya along the cobblestone path, making it look like a village. You will surely feel as if you have traveled back in time.

The building shows its long history, but since it has been renovated, the rooms are beautiful and have clean bathrooms and toilets for a comfortable stay.

It is recommended for two to three people to stay. (If you are a group of 5 or more people, Village Kiramachi may be able to arrange a large room for you. Please check with them directly, as it is not listed on the website. If there is no large room available, you will be asked to book more than two rooms.)

Why Do We Recommend It to You?

  • Excellent location
Village Kiramachi is located in the center of Kyoto City and has easy access to all of the tourist attractions in Kyoto. You can walk or take a bus or subway to get to must-visit places in Kyoto.
Although it is located in the city center, they offer a relaxing and peaceful stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
    • Shijo-Karasuma (city center): 1 minute walk
    • Nishiki-Ichiba (shopping street): 10 minutes by walk
    • Kawaramachi (shopping area): 15 minutes by walk
    • Manga Museum: 16 minutes by walk
  • Delicious Japanese Style Breakfast
    • They serve healthy breakfasts, mainly with fresh fish and vegetables. They also welcome Vegetarians and Muslims. (Please inform them beforehand.)
  • Authentic Japanese Style Rooms
    • The rooms are so comfortable and relaxing that you may even consider Village Kiramachi to be the main purpose of your trip, not just a place to sleep.
  • Comfortable Baths
    • The baths and showers in all the rooms are nice and clean, but the baths of Roten rooms are exceptional.
Roten is the abbreviation for Roten-buro (outdoor bath), which Japanese people love. Although it is an outside bath, you can relax assured that your privacy will be protected. I recommend these open-air baths, especially from the end of April to the beginning of June and from September to October, when the weather is relatively comfortable and nice.
  • Friendly Staff
    • Japan is famous for its hospitality, and even we Japanese are amazed at the hospitality of the staff of Village Kiramachi. It’s no wonder they are rated so highly on various booking websites. They also speak English.
