My Favourite Snack and Dessert Places in Miyako Island

Hi! It’s Kurumi. Today, I would like to recommend some tasty food on Miyako Island.
Miyako Island is one of the popular islands in Okinawa and famous for the beautiful ocean and gorgeous white sand beaches. The clarity of the water is the best in Okinawa, and people even call it “Miyako Blue”! Miyako Island also has lots of must-visit snack and dessert places.

RICCO gelato

I highly recommend this gelato shop! This gelato shop sells gelato that is made with locally produced ingredients. This shop owner and local farmers collaborate to promote the consumption of local food. Isn’t that amazing? The ingredients are not limited to tropical fruits such as mangoes and passion fruits but also herbs, Awamori (strong Okinawa liquor distilled from rice), and Chinsuko (Okinawa’s traditional biscuits). They offer 37 flavors on their standard menu, along with various seasonal flavors as limited editions. From these, they serve about 12 flavors each day. The shop is open from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm (but you need to make your order before 5:45 pm). The regular holidays are Tuesday and Wednesday. They do not have car parks so you need to find a car park and it takes 12 mins by car from Miyako Airport. The link below is their website.

Moja no Pan (“Moja’s Bakery”)

It is a coffee stand that sells really tasty coffee and bread. Their breads are filling, fluffy, and chewy. I recommend you stop by for your morning coffee. It opens at 10:00 am, and their breads are sold really quickly because of its popularity! I wanted to try their chocolate bread really badly (because I love bread and chocolate) but they were already sold at noon. The popularity is one of the reasons their breads are sold quickly but also there is another reason. Their breads are kneaded with their hands not using a kneading machine so they cannot mass produce their breads. Please note that their business hours differ by day of the week. It is open from 10:00 am to around 3:00 pm on Tuesday to Friday, and 10:00 am to around 12:00 pm on Saturday and public holidays. The regular holidays are Sunday and Monday. It is better to check out their Instagram before you visit the shop because sometimes they announce their occasional closure last minute. They do not have any car park, and it is 12 mins by car from Miyako Airport. The location is pretty close to RICCO. It takes only 3 mins to get there by car. The link below is their Instagram.

Ikema Ohashi Kaimiru

My recommendation here is Beniimo mochi (purple sweet potato rice cake). Once you eat a bite of Beniimo mochi you cannot resist yourself eating the whole of it because of its chewiness and gooeyness. The mochi is subtly sweet and sesame smells great too. It is open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and does not have any regular holidays. They have car parks and it is 30 mins away from Miyako Airport by car.

There are more places that I would love to recommend, but they are the top three places that I would highly recommend you to visit during your stay in Miyako Island! Hope you enjoy your journey to Miyako Island!
