V+ます(masu) form is a verb form that is used at the end of a polite conversation. The V+ますform is also useful for other conjugations, so let’s learn it together!

The Three Japanese Verb Groups
Group Ⅰ Verbs
Take out the “u” at the end of the verb (dictionary form) and add “i-masu”.
書く(kaku) “to write” → kak (u) + i-masu → kak-i-masu → 書きます
歩く(aruku) “to walk” → aruk (u) + i-masu → aruk-i-masu → 歩きます
Group Ⅱ Verbs
Take out the “ru” at the end of the verb (dictionary form) and add “masu”.
食べる (taberu) “to eat” → tabe (ru) + masu → tabe-masu → 食べます
借りる (kariru) “to borrow” → kari (ru) + masu → kari-masu → 借ります
Group Ⅲ Verbs
There are only two verbs classified in Group Ⅲ.
する “to do” → si masu → します
来る(くる)“to come” → ki masu → 来ます
